How to Protect your Skin and the Ocean

How to Protect your Skin and the Ocean

Australia is home to some of the oceans most biologically diverse and culturally significant marine eco systems. We are known the world over for our pristine beaches, and stunning coral reef fringes.

We are also the most sunburnt country, and the highest consumers of sunscreen.  It is estimated Aussies purchase a whopping 30 million units of sunscreen annually. While it’s super important that we slip, slop, slap daily, the sunscreen you choose may have a detrimental impact on our coral reef. But it doesn’t have to be this way...

Here are some tips on how to look after your skin and the ocean this Summer

Reef friendly sunscreen

Reef friendly sunscreen is a term used to identify sunscreens that do not contain the chemical ingredients oxybenzone and octinoxate (UV blocking chemicals), that have been linked to coral bleaching. It is estimated a whopping 4,000 – 6,000 tonnes of sunscreen enter our reef ecosystems across the world annually. In 2018, Hawaii actually took steps to ban the sale of sunscreens containing oxybenzone and octinoxate taking a stand to protect their reef ecosystems. Just as beauty does not have to cost the earth, nor should our sun and skin care. When choosing your sunscreen, be sure to look for organic and sustainable products such as our Reef Friendly Byron Bay Bronze Zinc.

Our newest product addition has been carefully curated to deliver a premium product that protects and nourishes your skin all while working within our everyday ethos to reduce our footprint on our eco system.

Organic, natural and sustainably sourced, our luxe formula is non greasy and goes on clear, so it’s perfect for days on the beach or poolside or for everyday wear under your makeup as a primer. Dermatologically tested, it is suitable for all skin types and especially loved by those with sensitive skin.

Zinc oxide, a naturally forming element that acts a barrier between your skin and UVA and UVB light and does not impact our coral reef.

Your purchase decisions are powerful. Making choices such a choosing a reef-friendly sunscreen this Summer makes all the difference to looking after our Mother Earth.
